We are excited to share the fantastic activities and memorable moments that have taken place at Oldway Heights Care Home this October.
Music Quiz:
The residents thoroughly enjoyed testing their music knowledge in their quiz, in this spirited competition we had lots of winners who scored 100%! Clearly we have a topic loved by all.
Fruit Sensory Game:
For national fruit at work day we decided to play a sensory guessing game with fruit. Each resident closed their eyes as I placed a piece fruit into their mouth and they had to guess what the fruit was based on the texture and taste. This was greatly enjoyed by all who played and many found it interesting how removing some of the senses makes it so much harder to guess the fruit!
Trivia Games:
Everyone gathered for exciting trivia games, showcasing their knowledge and teamwork as they competed.
Year of Invention Game:
We tried a new game this month, Year of Invention! In this game residents take it in turn guessing the year different items were invented. It is always fascinating to learn something strange and new!
Animal Encounters:
We had Simon from Animal Encounters visit us with lots of new and exciting exotic animals, we even got to see an owl! All the residents enjoyed holding, stroking and learning about these incredible creatures lives.
Paignton Zoo:
Our final trip to Paignton Zoo was a lovely day. It was pouring down with rain but we enjoyed it nonetheless, coffee, cakes and animals what more could you want! A big thank you to Liam who came with us even though it was a very wet day!
Karaoke:
Old and new tunes rang out throughout the home as residents and carers all singing the words together. Classic hits like Elvis and The Beatles as we all reminisce over our joyous memories with the songs, along with newer artists like Paramore with lyrics that brought tears to our eyes. We find a true connection with each other through music.
Pub Lunch:
We have now started our pub lunches trips! Great food and drinks at Inn on the Quay and the ship, we are looking forward to many more!
King of Swing:
Residents flocked to the lounge, eagerly waiting for the performance to start. The air buzzed with excitement as Nick sang wonderful classics from The Beatles, Elvis, Frank Sinatra and many more. Nick had residents and staff singing and dancing with joy, even the shyest souls found themselves singing and tapping along to the music. Hips swaying and arms up in the air, what a fantastic show enjoyed by all.
Thank you to all residents and staff who participated in making these activities successful. Your enthusiasm and involvement are what make our care home so special.
