We are excited to share the wonderful highlights from the month of January at Oldway Heights Care Home. It has been a month filled with exciting events and enriching experiences for all our residents.
New Year’s Day Quiz
To kick off the new year with fun and excitement, we held a New Year’s Day Quiz that tested everyone’s knowledge on old and newer New Years Day traditions. Participants were engaged and eager to answer. It was a wonderful way to start the year with lots of laughter and friendly competition!
Afternoon Exercise Classes
Our afternoon exercise classes are designed to keep everyone active and engaged, with activities tailored to different abilities. Led by the skilled instructor, Jordan, everyone enjoys a range of exercises that promote flexibility, strength, and overall well-being. It’s a great way to stay fit, have fun, and bond with each other in our supportive environment.
Panto Trip
A delightful outing to see the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk brought a bit of sparkle and magic to everyone’s day! The lively performance, full of humour, vibrant costumes, and audience participation, had everyone smiling and laughing. It was a fantastic way to create lasting memories and experience the joy of live theatre together.
Louise the Saxophonist
Louise, the talented saxophonist, filled the room with beautiful melodies that brought joy to everyone. Her performance created a relaxing atmosphere, allowing participants to unwind, and enjoy the soothing sounds of live music, with some even singing the songs. It was a perfect way to connect with the memories we have and embrace the beauty of live performances.
Board Games
Board games bring a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition to the our home. Whether it’s a classic game like Monopoly or a new favourite, participants enjoy gathering around the table to play, chat, and share moments of laughter. It’s a great way to exercise the mind and foster social connections.
School Children Visiting
The excitement of having school children visit brought a wonderful energy to the care home. The children engaged with residents through fun activities like art, playing games and chatting. It was heartwarming to witness everyone bonding, as both young and old enjoyed each other’s company and shared experiences.
Café Trips
Café trips are a beloved activity where residents get the chance to enjoy a relaxing outing to a local café. Whether it’s for a warm drink, a sweet treat or a sip of something boozy, these trips offer a refreshing change of scenery and the joy of socializing outside the home. It’s a chance to experience a little adventure and enjoy some downtime in a new cozy environment.
Chess Club
Our Chess Club is a favourite for residents who enjoy a mental challenge and strategic thinking. Whether beginners or seasoned players, everyone is welcome to join and test their skills. The game encourages focus, patience, and friendly competition, providing a space for both relaxation and mental stimulation. Our most frequent winner being Mark however he was beaten by Ben Privett!
Food and Drink Quiz
The Food and Drink Quiz was a deliciously fun event where participants tested their knowledge on different cuisines, beverages, and culinary traditions. With a variety of questions, the quiz kept everyone engaged, and congratulations to Kirsty for winning the top prize! It was a great opportunity to celebrate food and share a few laughs, especially with hard to pronounce foods.
Animal Guessing Game
The Animal Guessing Game was a fun and interactive activity that sparked everyone’s imagination. Participants had fun trying to guess the animals based on clues. It was a fun game that really got us thinking, we shared lots of fun animal facts along the way.
Chrissie the Singer
Chrissie the Singer filled the air with her beautiful voice, performing a wide range of classic songs that had everyone singing along. Her warm and engaging presence made the performance even more special, bringing a sense of joy and nostalgia to all who listened. It was an uplifting experience that brightened everyone’s spirits. After the performance we all agreed that Chrissie is a wonderful visitor, especially after removing her mask. Residents all agreed, they still want her to come to sing!
Karaoke
Karaoke is always a blast, offering a chance for everyone to showcase their singing talents or simply enjoy the performances of others. From pop hits to classic tunes, participants belt out their favourite songs with enthusiasm and joy. We never fail to have a laugh together.
Animal HQ
Animal HQ brought the wonder of animals right to our doorstep with an exciting experience. Residents had the chance to learn about different creatures, ask questions, and cuddle some furry friends. Everyone loves to cuddle them all, from guinea pigs, to dogs, rabbits (and a baby!) and even a pigeon!
National Puzzle Day
National Puzzle Day was a perfect opportunity for residents to get their minds working and enjoy the satisfaction of solving a puzzle. Whether it was jigsaw puzzles, word searches, or logic games, the afternoon was filled with mental stimulation and teamwork. It was a relaxing and rewarding activity that encouraged problem-solving and collaboration.
