LIFE AT OLDWAY HEIGHTS

Oldway Heights is an impressive building with an interesting history of serving the local community over the years. Our care home in Torbay is in a beautiful location – a stone’s throw away from Preston beach and all the local amenities.

ACTIVITES

Residents enjoy a wide range of activities at Oldway Heights.

Life is for living, so whether your passion is cryptic crosswords or carpentry, gardening or gaming, we’re here to help you do the things you love – and maybe to learn something new!

There are always plenty of activities for residents to enjoy, including music and dancing from visiting entertainers and regular trips in the minibus to local attractions and nearby town for tea and cake or a spot of shopping.

Our team is keen to support our residents because their job satisfaction comes from your happiness and well-being.

HOSPITALITY

Oldway Heights has an elegant atmosphere, with many of the rooms being exceptionally light and airy with full height windows, overlooking the grounds and some with Sea Views.

Rooms have televisions and en-suite bathrooms. There are spacious lounges and a large dining room.

We have an excellent choice of menu and good home cooking using local produce provided by our resident chefs, as well as regular visits from a hairdresser, aromatherapist and chiropodist, and delightful sunny gardens with summerhouse and hot tubs.

OUR HOME

We pride ourselves on creating a homely environment because that is exactly what it is – a Home. Everyone has their own space and interests, but live together as a sociable, neighbourly community.

You can’t walk down a corridor without someone shouting a friendly ‘hello’. Games are played together, meals are a sociable time, and staff are friends as well as carers. We’ve even had residents meet and get married here, move out together (with a fully supported care package) and live happily together for many years.

As a care home for younger adults (18-65) we strongly believe in supporting our residents to have the life that they want. All of our residents have different care needs, and while some are more limited with their mobility, those who can get out and about or pursue hobbies with assistance get support from us to do so. We regularly sponsor one of our residents who is a keen sportsman and wheelchair rugby player for West Country Hawks (www.hawkswr.co.uk), and drive him to Plymouth for training sessions, and have created a workshop space for a resident to pursue his woodworking (he makes lovely gifts for us all too!).

OUR STAFF

Our staff make us proud every day. We have a dedicated, wonderful team who see Oldway Heights as part of their family. Many have been here for a very long time, and even given up their own time to volunteer at social events.

It’s important to us to nurture this relationship with our staff, and the relationships between our staff and residents as we are spending our time in their home.
